inspriation + 3 minute project

Today I got out a few of my favorite magazines and was flipping through them for inspiration. I've said it before, but I love come home magazine, out of all my Japanese books, this magazine has everything. I adore the styling in these photos. I think this style is exactly the mood I long to have in my life, casual, and not trying too hard. I have a huge fear of looking like I tried to style my home and my clothes too much. I just want it to be. Does that make/not make sense?

While I was flipping though them I realized that all the little touches in these homes I love are so simple and small. So I had a bit of inspiration and decided I need to try and do a mini project everyday. Because all those little things just don't happen at once.

Remember my mason jar lights? I was looking at them today and realized I really don't like how shiny the lids look. So I grabbed a few colors of my washi tape, and wrapped them, not even very neatly, to make them matte. 3 minutes later and my first mini project is done!

nostalgia.

It being 'roid week and all, it got me looking back at my pictures I took a couple years ago. I was really caught up in using my diana+ and Tyler had found a couple vintage Polaroid cameras that we used a lot. I love how simple film is, I love accidental double exposures, light leaks, things that happen when you're not even trying. Once I moved away from my schools photo lab, and large negative scanner, I stopped taking pictures with my diana+, and polaroids stopped being made (I think I still have a roll of film still in my diana!). I need to get back to film, I should find an old 35mm and pick it up again. I put up some of my photos on my flickr. Do you use film? When was the last time you took a film photo? Only getting one chance and having to wait until you could see it. Such a funny notion now.

mid-century textiles

Found these patterns in a book chronicling 20th century textiles. These are from the 1950-60s. I love the colors. They have a great illustrative quality to them.

Naive: Modernism and folklore in contemporary graphic design
I saw this book online from skinny laminx's blog, and got it on interlibrary loan recently.
I love the patterns and the graphics reminiscent of Saul Bass. These are a few of the images in the book. Working at a library again has opened up my resources to find tons of amazing images and artists.

lovely danish

I have been loving the series on danish textile design on design sponge this summer. And it took until now that I realized that it was done by my friend and past drawing 101 classmate Brittney! We were able to reconnect last summer in NYC when we were both doing internships. She's the sweetest and I am so jealous of all that she has gotten to do. Textile design is my #1 all time love and ambition!

I haven't done any world traveling, but if I had my choice it would be these two places alone. Scandinavia and Japan. Where the best design is!
